How to Self-Identify as Autistic

This guided learning path is designed to help those who suspect they are autistic, or suspect that a loved one in their care might be autistic, understand how their experiences map to the diagnostic criteria of autism.

After completing this guided learning path, you should have a clearer idea of whether or not a formal assessment would result in an autism diagnosis.

Note: This is a self-assessment process and does not replace a formal assessment.

This guided learning path contains four steps. Each step builds on the one prior.

The program is designed to move through the steps in order. However, you are encouraged to explore the content in each section before you begin. This will help you see the big picture context ("whole") before you delve into the details ("parts").

STEP 0

Guided Learning Path Overview

This will provide an overview of the complete learning path, including a detailed curriculum overview of the steps.

STEP 1

Understanding How Autism is Diagnosed

This step will teach you how formal assessments work so you can then map your experiences to those requirements.

STEP 2

Understanding Your Internal Experiences

This step will help you understand how your internal experiences (that cannot be observed by others) map to the diagnostic criteria.

STEPS 3 & 4

Mapping your Experiences & Completing Your Self-Assessment

This step contains a 57-page interactive guide to help you map your lived experiences from early childhood to present to the diagnostic criteria and then conduct a self-assessment to determine if pursuing a formal assessment would likely result in a formal diagnosis.
